Reconciling Church

THE WALK [FaithWalk] is an official Reconciling Church, open and affirming to all God's children. In an effort to participate in the mission of the church — to make disciples for the transformation of the world — and in response to our guiding vision statement, we want to engage in authentic Christian community, where everyone is welcome at God's table.

While creating a safe space for everyone has been a part of the DNA of our community of faith from the beginning, we wanted to insure that when we say "everyone" we mean everyone. Therefore, in January 2013 we formally began the reconciling ministries process. On September 29, 2013 we completed this part of the journey, and by member vote elected to officially become a Reconciling Church in the Western North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church. We now turn to the next chapter of living out such a statement of faith, and we invite you to join in the work God is doing!

Our official reconciling statement is as follows:

"THE WALK [FaithWalk] is a community of faith that welcomes everyone! People of all races, ages, genders, gender identities, national origins, sexual orientations, faith traditions, financial means, education, marital statuses, family make up, and mental and physical abilities are encouraged to join in and be a part of the work God is doing! Our hope is to be a living expression of the love extended through Christ, as together we strive to be an authentic Christian community — loving God and loving neighbor."

The Reconciling Ministries Network

The Reconciling Ministries Network (RMN) has been mobilizing United Methodists to create full inclusion of all God’s children regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity since 1982. RMN is a growing movement of United Methodist individuals, congregations, campus ministries, and other groups working for the full participation of all people in The United Methodist Church.
