October 2007 Message Series:
"Monsters in Our Closets"

Have you ever been scared? Of course you have. We all have. Some of us approach fear in a different way, and some of us really don't know what it is exactly that we are afraid of. Particularly, during this time of the year — that time being October and Halloween — we see more monsters and goblins than other times of the year. But if the truth be told, our own monsters — those that we keep locked up in our own closets — follow us around all year long. They scare and torment us just about every day of our lives. But, there is a difference between being scared and being bound in fear. We all get scared at times, but we are not all held captive by fear.

"Monsters in Our Closets" is a fun and safe way to examine those things that keep us held captive in fear in such a way that we are unable to be who God has created us to be. In fact, these "things" can stand in the way of our own discover of God and God's purpose for our lives.

So, we enlisted the help of two fun, loving monsters — Sulley and Mike Wazowski of the Disney/Pixar movie, "Monsters, Inc." — to help us take a creative look at the things that keep us bound in fear or that capture our attention in unhealthy ways. Through the creative integration of video clips from the movie, we bring into examination our own life experience, then we look toward the Bible to understand how God wants to work in these circumstances and instances.
