What is it that you see when you look out on the horizon of your life? Maybe you have your life all planned out, or maybe you are terrified of what the days ahead may bring. But the one thing we all have in common is that none of us can see with certainty the big picture of our lives.

The truth is, we can only see the tip. And lurking beneath that tip there is a deepness and fullness which we are often completely unaware.

Yet we have a tendency to bet everything we have on what we can see. Unfortunately, too often what we can see is not the full picture. We do this in our family life, in our careers, in our relationships, and especially with our faith. Regardless, in all these areas, our decision to do this is all about what we believe. We build our belief systems on the "tip" of things rather than on the the deepest truths that rest under the surface.

What happens when we rub up against something that is not consistent with our belief system? More often than not our system gets ripped and torn from underneath us. Think about the Titanic and its unsuccessful encounter with an iceberg. There was far more iceberg underneath the water surface than what people could see.

The same is true in our faith. Sometimes we find ourselves trying to move forward on this faith-journey equipped with only what we can see on the horizon. There is no depth to our faith foundation. Sometimes this can be a painful realization. What is it that you see? Careful... "Iceberg, dead ahead!!!"
