Advent is a special time of the year that represents four weeks, including Sundays, leading up to Christmas. Advent derives from the Latin adventus, which means "coming." The season proclaims the coming of Christ — whose birth we celebrate once again, who comes continually in Word and Spirit, and whose return in final victory we anticipate. So now you are up-to-speed on Advent. But what is Advent Conspiracy all about? Advent Conspiracy is an international movement restoring the scandal of Christmas by worshiping Jesus through compassion, not consumption (For more information on this movement see the Advent Conspiracy website by clicking here). Christ tends to get overlooked at Christmas. Let's be honest. December comes and you think, "OK, this is the year." This time you'll swear you'll slow down and take it all in, make the most with family, help the needy, and zero in on what it really means to be a Christ follower during the holiday season. What if you could inspire your church, your family, and yourself to avoid being consumed by commercialism this Christmas? This Advent season FaithWalk will join together with hundreds of churches across the country and globe to take a fresh look at what Advent actually means, and what Christmas is truly about. And we won't be just listening or admiring Jesus from a distance. Instead, this year, we will be taking action and becoming a part of what Jesus intends us to be as Christ followers. This will include our support of Loaves and Fishes of Burlington, NC in their efforts to feed the hungry. Additionally we will be working with a local family in need, and encouraging our children with projects of giving for the holidays. Jesus has given us a new life. Join in with us this Christmas season to give life to others by worshiping Jesus through compassion. How will you allow God to make you a blessing to others this Christmas season? Tracking Schedule — Series: "Advent Conspiracy"
We hope you are able to come out and join us for this entire series or for any one of the Sundays listed above that you are able to attend. NOTE: To listen to one of the messages above, as they are uploaded (MP3 files), go to the multimedia page. |
